Chief Financial Officer

Robert Herzog is an experienced higher education executive with deep and broad financial and administrative experience. In his various executive capacities, Robert has led budgets and P/L’s from $40M - +$200M and has been privileged to lead teams of personnel from 5 to 100+. In his various roles as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, Senior Vice-President of Finance & Administration Officer, and Vice-President Finance &Administration he has brought deep financial, compliance, strategy, and leadership acumen to: delivering key strategic financial plans; building teams to increase margin and profitability across various aspects of institutional operations; upgrading facilities to support long-term growth; executing complex financial transactions to ensure organizational sustainability; building and managing complex budgets across multi-discipline and multi-location institutions; ensuring operating efficiency while maintaining compliance; and developing policy framework ensuring compliance within organizational mission.

 

Robert’s 15+ years of progressive executive leadership includes appointments at Ursinus College, Herzing University, Berkeley College, and 16 Tech Community Corporation with responsibility for virtually all areas of organizational operations including: finance, accounting, legal, compliance, grant reporting and management, human resources and talent management, budgeting and financial reporting, external and government relations, information technology, risk management, safety and security, audit, tax, banking, public policy, compliance, and board liaison. He has led: $24.1M+new-market tax-credit financing to renovate 100,00 sq. ft. multi-purpose center for innovation; $16.6M financing for 660-unit parking garage; successful financings and openings of five new university locations covering 130,000 sq. ft. and various programmatic disciplines; over $100M of various capital expansions throughout his career; successful ratings reviews; and over $200M in lending transactions and re-financings. Robert has also been the executive champion on numerous university wide technology implementations, including ERP, SIS, and HRIS systems.

 

He has a long and extensive governance and community service. In higher education, he served as Chair, Past-Chair, and Treasurer of Directors of the Washington, DC based Career Education Colleges & Universities, a $12M annual operating budget with twenty-three FTEs, which under his leadership represented interests of +3 million students across the higher education landscape. He served as the Treasurer of the Gleaners Food Bank Blue Ribbon capital campaign which raised $16M to fund the ultimate acquisition of their new facility. As an executive, he has led and participated in various feasibility studies as well as sustainability campaigns to ensure mission focused capital infusions. Robert has also served on numerous university wide strategic planning committees and participated as peer reviewer on an MSCHE accreditation team. Robert currently serves on the Goodwill Industries ofCentral and Southern Indiana – Foundation Board and is a Founding Member of The District Theatre Board of Directors. His past board service includes Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Summer Stock Stage, Indianapolis Public Library Foundation,The Indianapolis Arts Council, Gleaners Food Bank of Central Indiana, Inc. He is an alumnus of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership program, Class XXXII.

 

Robert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Minnesota State University – Mankato and holds an active CPA licensure. He resides in Indianapolis with his wife of thirty years and has two children.
