NEW LEADERS COMMENDS REPRESENTATIVES FOR ADVOCATING FOR FY20 SCHOOL LEADERSHIP FUNDING

New Leaders is pleased that a bipartisan congressional coalition has called for FY 2020 funding for the School Leader Recruitment and Support Program (SLRSP), the only federal program specifically focused on investing in evidence-based, locally-driven strategies to strengthen school leadership in high-need schools.

In a letter from March 29, 2019, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-CA), asked leaders of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to fund SLRSP at $14.5 million in the FY 2020 appropriations bill.

In the letter, the 19 Representatives highlight SLRSP’s track record of success and note that funding the program “will ensure that principals and school leaders receive critical support, ultimately leading to improved teacher skills and increased student achievement.”

New Leaders thanks these Members for their strong support of and commitment to school leadership.
